Exterior scene
December 2023, Ink on paper, 22’’ x 10’’
This drawing is a favourite of mine, it was my first time doing an exterior scene in 2-point perspective, and I think it was pretty successful. It took me a bit of time to figure it out, as exterior scenes require quite a lot more organic shapes, which can be difficult to properly achieve in perspective, and have it look right and convey that you know what you’re doing. Because of this, I made sure to add geometric shapes as well, that clearly state I know how vanishing points work.
This was also my first time doing a finished piece in marker, and it was very fun. I stuck to gray tones as to not overwhelm the viewer with colour, and so that you could focus on the structure and the line work. I was unsure if both warm and cool gray tones was a good idea, as they might clash, but I think it was a good choice, so that you feel the sense of a warm day on a farm, but the stone and rocks are all still cool tones.
